MANILA, Philippines - “Pilipinas Got Talent” grand winner Jovit Baldivino has not fallen into the trappings of his success nor easily swayed by intrigues.
On rumors that he is not Ai Ai delas Alas and Kris Aquino’s choice to bag the first “Pilipinas Got Talent” top honor, Jovit refuses to believe it.
Lahat ng contestants pantay-pantay,” he explained in an interview.
Turning 17 on Oct. 16, Jovit gifted himself a guitar worth $500.
The “PGT” winner has joined amateur singing contests thrice; he lost in his first attempt but won in the two succeeding competitions.
“Kasi po nilagnat ako noon pero lumaban pa rin ako,” Jovit explained on losing in his first attempt. His piece then was Sarah Geronimo’s “How Could You Say You Love Me?” By twist of fate, Jovit has now clinched a part in Sarah’s musical soap opera.
On his first loss, he uttered, “Bata pa naman ako at marami pa po akong mararating.” And when he finally won, he said, “Sabi ko po baka tuloy-tuloy na ito.”
True enough, Jovit went on to reap more success in his career. After winning as grand champion in “Pilipinas Got Talent”, Jovit scored a major feat when his first album went platinum.
Jovit loves his fans. He feels he owes all his success to his supporters.
“Alagaan po ‘yung career, mahalin po ‘yung fans. Masarap talaga ‘yung maraming fans.
As a singer, Jovit has performed for the likes of President Noynoy Aguino, Governor Vilma Santos and Ryan Christian Recto.
Jovit’s free time is spent on “basketball, kasi hilig ko talaga and play instruments [like] keyboard, drums, lead guitars.”
Before making it big, Jovit was a member of two bands, Salupa and Maledeta. “Tumutugtug kami sa iba’t ibang okasyon – fiesta, battle of the bands. ‘Pag in-iinvite po kami, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mura lang po kami noon, P10,000,” he shared.
But with his success now comes limited social activities.
Jovit wants to tour the world.
While in the US, he got culture-shocked. Doon walang kanin. Tapos noong kinagabihan, may kanin nga wala namang kutsara!”
Jovit remains simple when he visits his native Rosario, Batangas.
On rumors that he is not really poor, Jovit’s reply was quick and straight.
