Another Establishment Opens in Palompon

A new department store aptly named J & F Department Store opened with much hype and fanfare in a newly rehabilitated building owned by the family of George Liok last October 1, 2010 after several years of inactivity due to some problems with the former land owners where the building was constructed.

BuPublish Postt the owners, said to be Chinese nationals from Taipeh, Taiwan would not even wait for the October 10, 2010 date said to be "suerte" for business. As a department store, said establishment would not be a threat to the other existing stores like SM shopping mall and Bernardita's simply because they are catering on a different categories or goods.

Clothing Section

SM (Sayoing & Manuel) purely caters on groceries, so with Bernardita's, Eddie Lim's store and Erwin's Enterprises which are all located in Rizal St., the main road of the town of Palompon, Leyte. The only store affected is the Golden Dragon Marketing which caters also on the same products coming specifically from mainland China which are considered cheap household products.

Many were saying that it is nearly impossible to recover the amount needed to pay for the rentals (said to be in the vicinity of  One Hundred Fifty (P150,000.00) thousand pesos a month. Add to this the salaries of the employees, the electrical and water consumption, the operating expenses and other overhead expenses like taxes and many more will add up to something big that will sharply reduce the income and profit (if ever there is) of the said establishment.

Another establishment, this time a food related business named DAY and NIGHT Catering Services located at Taft St., Palompon, Leyte opened last September 18, 2010 without much fanfare, but were able to fill up the space provided by the owners until the wee hours of the evening where some friends and invited guest spent their time savoring the wholesome menu offered by the resident chef.  At right can be seen the facade of the newly opened restaurant and catering service.
