Hotel, lake development eyed in Toledo

Cebu Daily News

Completion of a four-story international hotel in barangay Poblacion and development of the Malubog Lake in Toledo City, west Cebu, are two of the top priority tourism programs of the Toledo City government.

Mayor Aurelio Espinosa said the P170-million hotel scheduled for completion in June is being funded by the Toledo City government through proceeds of the city’s bond float in 2009.

Toledo City Budget Officer Jeremias Barcenas said the hotel will be operated by private hotels under a 60-40 percent sharing scheme with the city. He said hotels like Microtel and Days Hotel expressed interest in operating the city’s international hotel.

Espinosa said the opening of the 100-room hotel will be timed with Toledo City’s Hinulawan Festival in June. He said they are also looking into developing the Malubog Lake in barangay Bagakay.

He said the lake will house a livelihood training center, cottages for guests and visitors and native souvenir shops. Espinosa said they will improve the road network to make it accessible for the tourists.

Espinosa said Toledo City allocated 30 percent or P90 million of the city’s 2011 budget for road concreting, rehabilitation and improvement.
