Traveling A–Z: Dinagat Islands

 Both charming and mysterious, the adventure filled province of Dinagat Islands is considered by tourists who have been to the destination as a “Mystical Island Province of Love”. Home to innumerable adventures and white sand beaches, the province of Dinagat Islands is an intriguing destination to say the least.
Located on the south side of Leyte Gulf across the Surigao Strait, the province is among the favorite destination for rock climbers and extreme adventurers as well. Caves, rock formations, waterfalls, bonsai forests and mountain lakes are just among the natural wonders waiting for adventurers in Dinagat Islands.
Dinagat Islands is also said to have a spiritual importance during the pre-Spanish era for natives. The province is also of historical importance as the site of one of the country’s greatest battles known as Battle of Surigao Strait during World War II.

Bugkosan sa Isla – the term comes from the word “pagbugkos” or to bind, where the celebration depicts the unity of the province as well as thanksgiving rituals.
Places of interest: Mt. Redondo Natural Bonsai Forest – Over a thousand meters above sea level, this second highest mountain in the province is covered with bonsai trees. It is one of the only two natural bonsai gardens in Mindanao and the only one accessible through land transportation
Esperanza Spring - The spring is characterized by crystal clear and chilly waters as it cascades in the midst of a tropical forest.
Ouano Lagoon – Locals and tourists admire the lagoon’s perpetual serenity as its deep-bluish-clear water is ideal for swimming.
Campijagit Point – The mystique island also offers a refreshing wipeout for surfers through the said surfing spot.
Pangabangan Island - With a size of about 2.5 hectares, this specific island in the province is blessed with fine-white-sand as Rock formation towers over the clear water with wonderful coral reefs.
Sundayo Beach - Ideal for snorkeling with islets in different shapes and sizes that surround it.
Lake Bababu - Is a mountain lake nestled in vast walls of granite and surrounded by wild trees. A steep descent to the lake adds thrill to avid adventurers and offers fine views to numerous small caves.
Campintac Black Beach - A strategic area where U.S. Liberators landed and fought against the Japanese Imperial Army.
How to get there:
Air travel is the best way to go to Dinagat Islands, Major airlines as well as budget friendly airlines has regular scheduled flights going to Surigao City. From there, tourists can take a boat ride going to Dianagat Islands which is an hour away.
