MANILA, Philippines—Final countdown: four days to go before David Foster brings his “Hitman” concert tour to the Araneta Coliseum with Natalie Cole, Charice, Peter Cetera, Ruben Studdard, and The Canadian Tenors on October 23.
This marks the first time Filipinos will witness the country’s pride, Charice, sing live with her mentor Foster and his band backing her up.
In between her tapings for “Glee” and the “Hitman” tour, Charice took time to do this short interview:
What have you learned from Foster that has helped you on a personal level?
Never compromise. When we’re working in the studio, the results have to be great. We never settle for good.
Which singer you have worked with has given you the biggest thrill so far?
Singing with Celine Dion at Madison Square Garden has been the highlight of my career so far. This would never have happened without Oprah and Sir David.
What sort of training has Foster given you?
He directs me on the particular style of a song. He teaches me the proper way of phrasing the lyrics. I learned much of my English grammar from him.
What’s it like working with him? Has he ever gotten mad at you?
Thank God, he has never gotten mad at me yet. But he’s very firm when giving me guidance and advice.
How do you deal with success?
The love and strength of my mom keeps me grounded
