MARILAO CLAN Reunion 2010

The first ever MARILAO CLAN reunion was successfully held last May 29, 2010. Though I can consider the reunion as a success for a first ever affair, it happened as without a hitch like the late arrival of almost everybody clinging to the belief that it was always "Filipino Time" hence, every action even a delayed one has a reason.

From then on, the arrival of people from different clans were slowly trickling in bringing with them food as agreed upon during the impromptu meeting last April 17, 2010. By 10 am the venue was still half filled but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of those present since they know that it was the first ever reunion of the Marilao Clan after so many years. Since it can be said that the Marilao's was one of the pioneer and oldest families in this part of Northern Leyte.

At about 11 am the venue was already full of people from different clans and different towns of Leyte particularly Palompon, Villaba, Matag-ob, Cebu City, Tacloban City and Manila. There are other clan members who did not bother to register so we don't know were they came from and from what clan branch they were connected. There are also some registration lapses that should be corrected the next time around so that posting in the family tree record would be easy.

By 11:30 am, I asked Betty Campos to at least wait for the other lechon donated by Mr. Oscar Marilao, but she insisted that many are agitating to eat already. So, Betty Tacan was requested to led the prayer of thanksgiving for the food that the clan members are going to partake that day. I for one, attended to the distribution and uncapping of the bottles of soft drinks to push the food they are going to take.

From my estimate, there are about five hundred to six hundred participants that day, adults and kids alike The table having the food was overflowing with different viands and snacks brought in by many clan members. It was so heartwarming that the response of clan members, although most of them can be considered poor, brought with them something that they can share with everybody. Many of the food items that can be considered a delicacy and seldom seen in food stalls are there.

After everyone were filled to capacity, including the latecomers, the games solely for the kids (and adult alike?) was started after an hour of rest. Prices started with just candies, but later money (about forty pesos) was added to give more incentives to the participating kids. The games started by asking participants to "bring me this, bring me that" which later on ended on the traditional "hitting the pot".

Of course the oldies would not be left behind, they also participated in ballroom dancing, a dance fest that would not fade out. It is even the craze for young at hearts who want to be seen that they know how to dance even for the young or old. We'll, as per my assessment the affair was a total success when they promised to be back after two years. They voted to come back on the last Saturday of May 2012. They also promised to tell everyone they know about the 2nd MARILAO CLAN reunion

The good side of a reunion such as this is the reminiscing of the past and the fact that you will be meeting with people you sometimes hardly know. That's why meeting relatives in a reunion to know each other, is a good sign. But there are also bad things that we can never abolished. Like people with bad intentions who try to take advantage of the situation and do whatever is in their mind.

A clan member named Lotlot Marilao-Merin lost her stainless Corning-ware sent from Australia by a relative which eventually was taken and brought home by another during the concluding hours of the affair right at the table were the food was located. The act was seen by many people but were not aware of the bad action purportedly made by a clan member. The highly priced cookware was even traced by the owners after the affair, but sadly nobody would admit such act of pilferage done by an adult (clan member?) in a public affair like this.
.
Well, it is a lesson that should not be repeated again the next time around. So I was even contemplating of buying a CCTV camera to record the proceedings and see who will be the culprit and expose the shenanigans   in public if needed. I also want to avoid some clan members who has a habit of making people ill through "potions" added to food displayed in public. There are some people who believe that if they can harm others, they can be a better member of their tribe of evil minded persons.

The biggest delegation came from the clan of Felomino Marilao/Catarina Juanir. Most of them came from the Poblacion and Baranggay Sabang. It was followed by the Basilisa Marilao/Julian Escototo clan from Balite, Villaba, Leyte and Matag-ob, Leyte. While the smallest delegations were the Efifanio Marilao/Alang Martin clan and the Jorgeo Rosal Marilao/Julia Viacrusis Arevalo clan were only one person represented both clans. The second reunion on the last Saturday of May 2012 is a much awaited affair where we are expecting more clan members to join. Some who are abroad, would like to join also if they can produce money for travel fare and some gifts for relatives in the land of their birth.
