Boracay resort rated among Asia’s top 15



ILOILO CITY—A posh resort on Boracay island has been named among the top 15 resorts in Asia for 2010 by Life and Leisure magazine.

The Discovery Shores Boracay was ranked No. 14 with a rating of 90.35 on the annual list posted on the magazine’s website (http://www.travelandleisure.com/worldsbest/2010/hotels/resorts-asia/59).

It was the only resort in the Philippines included on the list, which was dominated by seven resorts from India, including the first-ranked Oberoi Vanyavilas in Rajasthan. Thailand had five resorts on the list while Indonesia and Cambodia had one each.

Included on the list are: 2. Oberoi Amarvilas, (Agra, India), 3. Oberoi Rajvilas (Jaipur, India), 4. Oberoi Udaivilas (Udaipur, India), 5. Four Seasons Resort (Chiang Mai, Thailand), 6. Hôtel de la Paix (Siem Reap, Cambodia), 7. Rambagh Palace (Jaipur, India), 8. Taj Lake Palace (Udaipur, India), 9. Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, (Chiang Mai, Thailand), 10. Umaid Bhawan Palace, (Jodhpur, India), 11. Four Seasons Resort Bali (Jimbaran Bay, Indonesia), 12. Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa (Chiang Rai, Thailand), 13. Amanpuri (Phuket, Thailand) and 15. JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa (Thailand).

The list is part of the magazine’s annual World’s Best Awards, which rates hotels, islands, destination spas, golf resorts and rental car agencies.

Rankings are based on an online survey among its readers. Hotels are rated based on their rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food and value.

This is the first time that Discovery Shores Boracay has been included on the list. The resort hotel, which opened in March 2007, is located near Boat Station 1 at the northern tip of the 1,032-hectare island. It is the first hotel in the Philippines to become a member of the elite Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
