 The myriad of cultures and the stories of history are just among the charms that invite tourists into the province of Ilocos Sur.
But there’s more to the province than its quaint façade and heritage houses. Ilocanos likewise pride themselves with an arsenal of fine delicacies that tingles the guest’s tastes buds. But indeed, the charms of the old world is too hard to resists as it serves as a window to the glory of the past while enjoying the luxuries of modernization.
From churches, bricked streets, and scenic surroundings Ilocos Sur is one destination that every Filipino should try at least once during their lifetime. A tour of the province introduces guests to the glory of the country during the Spanish era. Some consider the province as a living museum.
The historic town of Vigan is one of the most popular destinations in the province of Ilocos Sur. Established during the 16th century, the town is included in UNESCO’s World Heritage site for its important role of preserving a part in Philippine history.
Whether for a taste of unique culinary specialties or simply keeping in touch with the country’s history, the province of Ilocos Sur remains to be one of the most interesting destinations in the country for both local and foreign tourists.

• Tirad Pass - A scenic landscape inscribed in the books of Philippine history as the place where Gen. Gregorio del Pilar took this last stand against the colonizers.
• Sta. Maria Church – Many Filipinos have heard of a church that served as a sanctuary for revolutionary heroes during the war. This church in Ilocos Sur has always been mentioned in history books as a fortress for our heroes. The church is recognized as a World Heritage Site and also serves as a national landmark of the country.
• Heritage City of Vigan – As a fine example of a Spanish colonial town, the well known heritage city continues to entice tourists to stroll in the past as it is one of the most picture-friendly sites in the province.
• Cabangtalan Beach - Not to be overshadowed by the beaches from its northern counterpart, this beach of the province of Ilocos Sur serves as a refreshing beach getaway for tourists.
• Santiago Cove –Ilocos Sur’s famous stretch of golden sands.
How to get there:
Major bus companies have daily schedules going to the city of Vigan which is a 12-14 hours' land travel from Manila. Flying to the province is also possible via Laoag’s International Airport which is around two to three hours away from Ilocos Sur.
