Journey Live in Manila This March 21, 2013!

Quite recently, a graduating student from the University of the Philippines approached When In Manila for his thesis on media coverage of local and foreign acts for the year 2012. According to his research, When In Manila has published significantly more reviews of foreign concerts vis-a-vis local ones. Being one of the more avid concert goers in our group, he interviewed me on the plausible reasons for such a difference. What ensued was a 20-minute discourse on the dynamics of talents, promoters, its marketing arms, concert venues, and publications – all of which might be interesting to some but surely not so much relevant to the current article. What I’m driving at, rather, is that at the end of the interview I felt somewhat guilty for personally attending more concerts by foreign acts than local ones as a writer.
Bad habits are hard to break. But I hope this is one way to make amends. After all, Arnel Pineda is 100% Filipino.

Hard to believe, but this is only the second concert of Journey in Manila. The first was four years ago for their Revelation tour, a concert that was documented in the Journey Live in Manila DVD. As the story goes, lead guitarist Neal Schon discoveredArnel Pineda via YouTube singing Journey cover songs with local band The Zoo. Since then, he has recorded two albums Revelation and Eclipse with them and is at the core of what keyboardist Jonathan Cain calls a “world band” that isJourney.

Demographic Disaster Looms for America

That’s the claim advanced by the new book What to Expect When No One’s Expecting: America’s Coming Demographic Disaster.

NEW YORK — Insect biologist Paul Ehrlich’s 1968 bestseller, The Population Bomb, warned that millions of people would starve to death in the 1970s because there were too many human beings for the planet to support.

Consequently, Ehrlich advocated draconian measures — forced sterilizations of Indian men, the addition of “sterilants” to American drinking water and a reduction of human numbers to an “optimum” world population of 1-2 billion. His book instantly became the bible of environmentalists and politicians who have crusaded against overpopulation ever since and the rocket fuel propelling population-control initiatives and the notion that big families and babies are dangerous to human survival.

But the population bomb fizzled. Ehrlich failed to take into account human innovation, mostly in agriculture and public health, and, today, population scientists are almost unanimously worried instead about demographic winter — a term they use to describe the chill of a baby bust and a rapidly graying global population.
For the first time in history, the world — or almost all of it — will be experiencing an inverted demographic pyramid with more old people — a lot more — than young people and a host of economic and social challenges, from shrinking markets to soaring pensions, as a result.

Now, a new book, What to Expect When No One’s Expecting: America’s Coming Demographic Disaster (Encounter Books), adds to a growing list of books on the population implosion and says that demographic winter is coming to America, too.
“In reality, from Africa to Asia, from South America to Eastern Europe, and from Third World jungles to the wealthy desert petro-kingdoms, nearly every country in every region is experiencing declines in fertility,” writes the new book’s author, Weekly Standard editor Jonathan Last.
Every First World country has birth rates below the threshold replacement level of 2.1 children per woman (the 0.1 is to account for deaths from disease, war and famine), he observes, but even developing countries like Brazil and Iran are seeing decline.
The Long Decline

America’s birth rate has been declining gradually for decades, observes Last, and it actually began to sink like a stone in 1968 — ironically, just about exactly when Ehrlich started writing his overpopulation apocalypse.
As well, since 1973, when the Supreme Court legalized abortion, the United States of America has lost more
than 54 million citizens to abortion directly, as well as the generations that would have followed them had they not been killed prior to birth.

But while countries like Italy, Japan, Russia and Germany have experienced huge losses in fertility, America has been relatively insulated from the global demographic plunge, maintaining a total fertility rate of 1.93 — not bad for a First World powerhouse.

“But the closer you look, the less reassuring our number is,” writes Last. “Our national average is only boosted because Hispanic women are doing most of the heavy lifting, having an average of 2.35 babies. Take out Hispanics, and America’s fertility picture begins to look quite different.”

In November 2012, the Pew Research Center reported that the overall U.S. birthrate plunged in 2011 to the lowest on record. For U.S.-born women, it followed a long descent, decreasing 6% between 2007 and 2011, a significant drop, but much less than that of immigrant women, which plunged 14% during the same period — more than it had declined over the entire 1990-2007 period. For Mexican women, the birthrate fell 23%.

Following these trends, immigrants will soon be having as few babies as middle-class Americans, about 1.6 per woman and dropping. “America has created its very own one-child policy,” writes Last, alluding to China’s official population-control program. Though it has come by softer means, native-born U.S. fertility nearly matches China’s 1.54 figure, achieved after decades of brutally coercive population control.

Why Worry?

“Why should we care?” writes Last.  “After all, America seems pretty crowded as it is. Why should it matter if, in a few decades, we don’t have as many people clogging up the freeways and malls? The short answer is that sub-replacement fertility rates eventually lead to a shrinking of population — and throughout recorded human history, declining populations have always followed or been followed by Very Bad Things. Disease. War. Economic stagnation or collapse.”

“This below-replacement birthrate brings with it certain economic consequences of its own,” concurs Steven Mosher, president of the Virginia-based Population Research Council. “It exacerbates the looming insolvency of Social Security and Medicare. It places roadblocks in front of an already sputtering economic recovery.”

“As the worst recession in decades has dried up jobs across the country and darkened economic prospects, especially for young couples in their prime childbearing years, they are postponing marriage and childbearing, and the maternity wards are emptying out,” said Mosher.

Japan, at the leading edge of the depopulation curve, is now beginning to feel the effects of having experienced demographers’ “lowest-low” fertility rate of about 1.4 over an extended period. Because of this long-term baby dearth, even if its birthrate rebounds suddenly to 2.0 — which it shows no sign of doing — it will still lose 30% of its population by the end of the century. If it stays where it is, the country will suffer an irrevocable demographic death spiral in which its population will be halved, by 56.5 million, by 2100.

Aging is the other half of demographic winter. In 2011, sales for adult diapers exceeded those of baby diapers for the first time in Japan. The increasing economic pressure on the state to pay for care of the elderly prompted the country’s finance minister, Taro Aso, to remark in January that the elderly and “tube people” should “hurry up and die” before they consume precious government resources.

“One thing you can certainly say is that, despite their many winning characteristics, children are not convenient,” said Nicholas Eberstadt, a researcher with the American Enterprise Institute in Washington. “Neither are old people. If we have a convenient society which is ethically unmoored, these demographics can lead in very dangerous directions.”

Overpopulation Mythology
But overpopulation mythology is entrenched in modern culture. For example, British naturist David Attenborough in January called human beings “a plague on the earth” and predicted the situation would only get “worse and worse.”

“We keep putting on programs about famine in Ethiopia,” he told the Radio Times. “Too many people there. They can’t support themselves — and that’s not an inhuman thing to say.”
That kind of scientifically unsubstantiated rhetoric is highly dangerous, according to critics of the population-bomb alarmism.

“Overpopulation, it turns out, is a myth, but it is a myth that kills, because, in its name, the government of the U.S. continues to export abortion, sterilization and contraception to relatively innocent, untouched corners of the world,” said Mosher, whose group produced a series of short animations on overpopulation myths that have gone viral on YouTube.
“It is a secular faith,” said Eberstadt of the overpopulation theory. “It is a belief that has, without God, all the trappings of religiosity, including utter immunity to empirical testing.”
“I believe in the Virgin birth; you believe in overpopulation,” commented Last.  “Everybody believes in something. Call it faith. Call it a theological argument. Just don’t call it objective science.”

The Fertility Debate

Fertility lies at the heart of the difference between the secular and the sacred approaches to life, Last told the Register“Modernity has shifted our cultural perspective so that we're much less focused on the past, as a source of reverence and wisdom, and on the future, as a place of deeper importance. Instead, we seem to focus intensely on the ‘now.’”

That may explain why people who take religion seriously have more children. Americans with the highest fertility were those who went to church — of any denomination — at least once a week.
“For Christians concerned not just about the here and now, but about the hereafter,” echoed Mosher, America and the globe’s plummeting birthrate “necessarily means that fewer souls are coming into existence to enjoy the blessings of this life and eternity in the next.”

Conquer Sagada with Travel Factor

When in Manila, you’ll find yourself constantly making excuses to get a break off your hectic schedule just to explore the various attractions and countless destinations the Philippines has to offer. From breathtaking beaches, unparalleled party scenes, and photographic landscapes, the country provides only the finest form of entertainment for every stereotype.

If for a certain moment, what you seek is thrill and adventure, Something you won’t see on a normal day, and if you are hungry for snippets of unstained Philippine culture, then pack your bags, man up, and conquer Sagada. And what better way to do that than with Travel Factor.

photo ScreenShot2013-02-22at91420PM.pngView of the road towards Sagada

Last Feb 16-18, I participated in one of Travel Factor’s featured destinations. Visiting Sagada was really nothing I expected. I’ve heard only a few things about province and I felt I needed a change from my usual beach outings. As most people would know, Sagada is a peaceful area situated on the higher regions of the archipelago, home to abundant crops and humble indigenous Philippine people. What the lucky few know is that it conceals natural wonders that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

 photo ScreenShot2013-02-22at91803PM.pngTrekking towards Bomod-ok Falls

Travel Factor was born in 2006 when a group of individuals decided to take a different approach to travel and wanted to share their passion with others. Years later they’ve managed to make the best-kept secrets of any destination accessible to everyone at reasonable fees. In cooperation with Victory Liner’s Biyaheng Victory, any of their featured destinations (both local and international) will immerse you in a carefully thought out list of activities that will make your stay worthwhile and hassle free yet pocket friendly.

It’s one thing to travel with close friends and loved ones, but it’s a totally different experience to explore a new place with a set of new faces. Travel Factor‘s trips can accommodate more or less 40 people and will give you the opportunity to meet new individuals.

The moment we  reached the road towards Sagada, I was welcomed by a stunning view of rice terraces and fresh green mountains. The morning sun woke me, lighting up the cheeks of my companion, and displayed the perfect moment, one that I could hardly witness in Manila.

 photo ScreenShot2013-02-22at91301PM.png

We  settled in a cozy little inn that gave the comforts of home at a rather conservative cost (which is, of course, already included in the travel package). After devouring our hefty lunch, we then prepared ourselves for the start of the weekend of adventure and the unknown.

The journey began with a trek down to the famous Bomod-ok falls. It was long and treacherous, not for your ordinary couch potato. If not physically fit, you’d have to come equipped with the guts and hungry for thrill of the continuous battle of keeping your strides confined between the tiny steps towards the foot of the mountain. There’s but a thin line between coming home with a great story and falling head first on the sharp rocks no matter how pretty the view or dramatically you would’ve ended your life (just kidding).

The reward after going through what seemed like ten thousand miles is the enchanting view of the waterfalls. Taking a dip in the ice-cold lagoon, said to posses healing powers, would make you feel instantly recovered and prep you for the climb back up.

 photo ScreenShot2013-02-22at91916PM.pngBomod-ok Falls

A tiring day would only end perfectly with a good night’s sleep and an equally beautiful wake up call (a trip to the Kiltepan viewpoint). We welcomed the next day with dozens of other vacationers enveloped in blankets of mist and a sea of clouds atop a peaceful mountain. After a few minutes of enduring 15 degrees is the relieving warmth of the sun complete with the picture perfect view.

You’d never leave Sagada without plunging into one its tourist friendly and pretty caves (pretty deadly if you ask me). One of their key attractions is the activity known as Spelunking. I know, it was also the first time I’ve ever encountered the term in my life. In simple words, it is basically the act of cave exploration, though it wasn’t that basic at all.

Sumaging is the more popular one, done by the majority, as it is less tedious and has plenty of graphic rock formations. The cave connection activity though, would start off in Lumiang, which is ideal for those who seek to push themselves and take them back to their chilhood where adventure was only defined by playing in the neighbors’ backyard. Now this is the real deal.

From the beginning to the end, you’ll find yourself constantly twisting, turning, rolling, and getting absolutely dirty all over so don’t expect to tackle it in your glamorous clothes or the cave will eat you alive. I didn’t think I was fit to do any of that but the good thing about being in a tour group of random people is that you’ll feel a sense of confidence and a natural stimulant to get it done because you wouldn’t wanna be called a ‘wuss’. It was really interesting going on that trip with an elderly couple who I felt had more spunk than me, again one of the perks of traveling with Travel Factor.

You’ll instantly develop new relationships because you’ll find yourselves pushing each other to the end. You’ll learn to trust that the guides know what they are doing and throw away all your worries and put your heart and soul into every move.  The caves are wonderful and will keep you on your toes and your adrenaline pumping like crazy.

 photo ScreenShot2013-02-22at101717PM.png
If thrill and adventure is not your thing and you’d rather vie for rich cultural experience, the package also comes with a walking tour that would take you to explore breathtaking views with historical assets that can give you the relaxation and enlightenment you might be looking for.

Sagada is known for being one of the three participating regions that practice the virtue of keeping their loved ones in hanging coffins at the time of death. Burial is one of their distinct traditions and they are very careful when it comes to placing their family members in their final resting places, depending on the cause of death.

 photo ScreenShot2013-02-22at92333PM.pngCavalry Hills

Aside from the traditional cemetery in the Calvary Hills, a short walk down to Echo Valley would give you a view of the Hanging Coffins and entertain you with the magic that happens within. From the name itself, any noise you make would be reiterated back, which is not only entertaining but truly magical.

 photo ScreenShot2013-02-22at91137PM.pngEcho Valley

Now like what I said, Sagada is full of glorious secrets: Including food. How can a place bountiful of fresh produce serve food that tastes awful? It doesn’t make sense. Aside from the food served by our inn, Alibama, well known for their Pinikpikan, we  frequented a few of the go to places such as Yogurt house and Lemon Pie House, both known for their desserts, Yogurt and Lemon pie (obviously).

So when you’re done with your pasalubong shopping and whenever you have free time, explore the native cuisine because i’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.Gaia is a secret spot near the caves with an amazing view that serves vegan food. Since you’re already in an environment that forces you to sweat out and detoxify, why not go all out and feed your soul guilt-free food as well?

photo ScreenShot2013-02-22at95958PM.pngSquash Noodles and Vegan Burger from Gaia

All in all my experience with Travel Factor can be summed up into one word: Exceptional. For a minimal amount of 4950 php, I can say that it was money well spent. The organisers were very accommodating and created the atmosphere of one huge family. They also made sure that our (possibly) one and only trip to Sagadawas a memorable one.

When in Manila, step out of your comfort zone and surf Baler, climb Mt. Pulag, and CONQUER SAGADA with Travel Factor for a worry free and amazing escape.

Visit Some of the Best Snorkeling Sites in the Philippines With a Coron Package

Expert Author Beatrice Afra
The Philippines has a lot of amazing snorkeling sites to offer. One of the top destinations for diving and snorkeling is Coron, Palawan. Many tourists book a Coron package all year round for a chance to snorkel in clear waters, see the famous Japanese shipwrecks and swim in the cleanest lake in the country.
Coron's amazing islands and other natural wonders add to its beauty and draw tourists from all over the globe. You'll see powdery white sand beaches, lakes and lagoons when you book a Coron package and go on an island hopping tour. of course, no island hopping trip is complete without you trying to snorkel. Make sure to bring your gear. But if you don't have any, you'll find snorkeling gear and aqua shoes for rent in town. You may even ask your guide to find one for you.
A Coron package with island hopping tour also includes the service of a seasoned tour guide. You can be sure that you will be able to visit some of the most amazing snorkeling spots in the area.
Coral Garden at Atwayan Beach
One of the best snorkeling sites you'll find in Coron is the Coral Garden at Atwayan Beach. You'll see different corals, and various species of fish. If you'd like to feed the fish, make sure to ask your tour guide if it is allowed. There are some areas in Palawan where fish feeding is prohibited.
Skeleton Wreck
Another snorkeling site worth mentioning is the Skeleton Wreck. If you love diving, this is also a good diving site. You'll find a 1940's sunken boat some 5 miles deep. It surely looks eerie for first timers. So most people are content with simply snorkeling around the area.
Barracuda Lake
Barracuda Lake, like the Skeleton wreck serves as a snorkeling spot and diving site. According to myths, the lake is called that way because there's a giant barracuda living in the lake.
If you love to learn about local myths, be a little chatty with your tour guide. Most of them are friendly and would tell you stories.
Twin Peaks
Another site you may visit when you book a Coron package with island hopping tour is The Twin Peaks. This site is a bit deeper but you'll also find a lot of corals here. Just be careful with the resident sea urchins when snorkeling!
If you like island hopping and snorkeling, getting a Coron package will definitely be worth it! Bring your family and friends with you on your trip. As traveling is more fun in the Philippines when you do it with people you love.

President praises Megaworld for Newtown; Cebu, too, for its skilled workers

President praises Megaworld for Newtown; Cebu, too, for its skilled workers

By Elias O. Baquero
Thursday, February 21, 2013
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III reiterated a promise to make it easier for business owners to transact with the government and to avail themselves of competitive incentives.
He made the assurance in his speech during the unveiling yesterday morning of the Mactan Newtown, the flagship project in Cebu of Megaworld Corp.
“This is your first such (township-type) project outside Metro Manila, and the people from around here can assure you that you’ve made the right choice,” the President said.
“If there is any place where you can replicate your success in such projects in Metro Manila, it’s here in Cebu. The workers you will find here are skillful, creative, lighthearted, while possessing an unshakeable pride in the quality of their work,” he also said.
On the second day of his visit to Cebu, the President skipped a political sortie in Liloan town and instead went to Mactan. There, he thanked Megaworld executives, led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Tan, for investing in Cebu, creating jobs and providing facilities for more tourists.
Malacañang issued in June last year its Proclamation 407, declaring the 16 hectares of land owned by Megaworld in Mactan as a special economic zone.
Tan, in his speech, said the company is investing P20 billion for the project. He commended the Aquino administration for attracting more foreign retirees to the country.
Japanese retirees make up the bulk of buyers of two condominiums that Megaworld launched last year, 8 Newtown Boulevard and One Pacific Residence, the company said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.
The President has instructed the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) under General Manager Ernie Atienza and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) to help Megaworld.
Higher target
The PRA processes documents of retirees who want to invest and reside permanently in the Philippines. Peza supervises economic zones.
“We see the Mactan Newtown as a major driver of growth for Lapu Lapu City and Cebu in general in terms of job opportunities, sports and recreation, retail shopping and of course, tourism,” Tan said.
President Aquino also reported the revised tourism target of 56.1 million travelers by 2016. That, after the tourism department confirmed that in 2011, the Philippines recorded 37.5 million domestic travelers.
“Just to put this number into perspective, this already surpassed our original 2016 target of 35.5 million domestic travelers…By then (2016), we expect that we will need more than 37,000 additional rooms in our destination clusters, which include Cebu,” Aquino said.
“Suffice it to say: we fully intend on sending more guests to hotels in Cebu—guests who will be riding in your boats, buying your dried mangoes, and eating your famed Cebu lechon. So, to Megaworld: If you have some extra space here after all your buildings are done, you cannot go wrong with building another hotel.”

Megaworld Doubles Mactan Newtown Investment To P20-B

By Malou M. Mozo and Madel Sabater Namit
February 20, 2013, 8:03pm
LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – President Benigno S. Aquino III vowed to “maintain” a “business environment” that will further attract more investments in the country and could propel the domestic economy to higher levels.
The President made this assurance at the inauguration of Mactan Newtown, a 20-hectare township development project of Megaworld Corp. on the back of the announcement by Andrew L. Tan, chairman and chief executive officer of the real estate firm, that he will double the investments for its first project in Cebu to P20 billion spread in the next five to seven years.
“Across all sectors, our administration, in the coming weeks, months, and years, will continue giving you reasons to invest in the Philippines and to stay in the Philippines – and so will the Filipino people, as they always have. We will maintain the business environment that has led to investments like this,” the President said.

He stressed the government will continue to provide a level-playing field for both foreign and local investors “make it easier for companies to set up shop here, or to expand, as you are doing today.”
“Since assuming office, we have made a point to make it easier for companies to set up shop here, or to expand, as you are doing today. We are making sure that we provide competitive incentives to those investing in our priority sectors; and we are making sure that the keys to success in our country are hard work and innovation, and not simply a willingness to connive with crooks,” Aquino said.
He described the Mactan Newtown project as one sign of the country’s growing economy, which has vast trickle down effects from job creation to perking up activities of the other economic sectors.
“These projects are helping to grow the economy in ways that can be felt by ordinary people. Once this is completed, many of the businesses that will be established here will create tens of thousands of jobs for the local community both direct and indirect,” Aquino said.
He expressed optimism that more similar infrastructures will rise outside Metro Manila.
Driven by the strong optimism in Cebu’s economic landscape, Tan said Megaworld, one of the country’s leading real estate players, has doubled its investment from P10 billion to P20 billion for Mactan Newtown, a sprawling mixed-use commercial development expected to be completed within the next six years. It aims to duplicate Eastwood City in Libis, Quezon City, which is a mix of residential, and office condominiums, malls, hotel and business process outsourcing (BPO) centers.
“In the next five to seven years, we are investing P20 billion pesos in this township to build luxury residential condominiums, office towers, a world-class lifestyle mall, our very own Richmonde Hotel and soon- a sports and leisure facility,” Tan said.
The Mactan Newtown is said to be the biggest project so far of Megaworld in the southern Philippines. The township is inspired by the “live-work-play” concept. For this specific project, Megaworld has partnered with the Philippine Retirement Authority, allowing foreigners who want to retire at the Mactan Newtown to get a special resident retiree’s visa.
Aquino lauded Megaworld’s big ticket investment as it reinforces the Philippines’ capability to lure more investors both foreign and local. The President said that infrastructure projects like Mactan Newtown is a viable checkpoint for the Philippines having been recognized as “the next tiger of Asia.”
“Projects like this are valuable checkpoints for us — showing that, indeed, we have made progress. We are extremely thankful to companies like Megaworld — for nourishing the Philippines towards becoming the next Asian Tiger, by actually opening their checkbooks to make serious bets on our country. Nothing says confidence like P10-billion in investments. Nothing says confidence like planning to complete up to 14 buildings in the span of less than three years,” he said.
The President also expressed hope that he will lead the inauguration of the Mactan Newtown before the end of his term in 2016 and make a tour of the area as a regular tourist when he steps down in 2016.
“I am hopeful that this complex can be finished ahead of schedule — hopefully before July in 2016 — so that I can pay another visit to this beautiful place during my term, and if that isn’t possible, perhaps I can do so as a regular tourist and I can spend a lot more time here,” Aquino said.
According to Tan, a new residential cluster will be launched this year. Two luxury residential condominiums were launched in 2012- 8 Newtown Boulevard and One Pacific Residence-both are already sold out mostly to Japanese retirees.
As a cyberpark, Mactan Newtown is expected to generate employment for 25,000 full-time BPO workers in the next five to seven years.
“Two BPO companies- EnfraUSA and Results Manila, are ready to start their operations by April,” Tan said, adding that both are first-time locators in Cebu and will employ a combined 1,400 workers.
These companies will occupy the five-story One World Center, the first office tower to rise in the township.
Jericho Go, Megaworld first vice president for business development and leasing group, said that with the first office building already fully leased out, Megaworld will begin construction of its second BPO tower — Two World Center — this year, and is slated for completion in the first quarter of 2014.

10 Quotes That Will Change the Way You Attend Holy Mass

10 Quotes That Will Change the Way You Attend Holy Mass

Saint Gertrude the Great once reported that for each and every Mass that we hear with devotion during our lives, Christ sends a saint to comfort us in death. I was deeply moved the first time I read this.

Intellectually, I know that great value of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass - it is the solemn re-presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ to the Father in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. It's the source and summit of the Christian life. However, it is often difficult to remember this amazing truth in the midst of our common distractions during Holy Mass.

Saint Thomas Aquinas taught that with the Holy Eucharist, the five senses fail. Only faith can lift the veil and perceive the reality of Christ's presence and sacrifice.

I recently came across 10 quotes from the saints about the importance of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
These quotes remind me of the hidden mystery of the Holy Mass. I plan to review them before Mass during Lent. I'd encourage you to do the same if you also struggle with distractions. I may print them out on a card and put them in my missal:

  1. When the Eucharist is being celebrated, the sanctuary is filled with countless angels who adore the divine victim immolated on the altar. ~ St. John Chrysostom The angels surround and help the priest when he is celebrating Mass. ~ St. Augustine
  2. If we really understood the Mass, we would die of joy. ~ Saint Jean Vianney
  3. The celebration of Holy Mass is as valuable as the death of Jesus on the cross. ~ Saint Thomas Aquinas
  4. Once, St. Teresa was overwhelmed with God’s Goodness and asked Our Lord “How can I thank you?” Our Lord replied, “ATTEND ONE MASS.”
  5. “My Son so loves those who assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that, if it were necessary He would die for them as many times as they’ve heard Masses.” Our Lady to Blessed Alan.
  6. When we receive Holy Communion, we experience something extraordinary – a joy, a fragrance, a well-being that thrills the whole body and causes it to exalt. ~ Saint Jean Vianney
  7. There is nothing so great as the Eucharist. If God had something more precious, He would have given it to us. ~ Saint Jean Vianney
  8. When we have been to Holy Communion, the balm of love envelops the soul as the flower envelops the bee. ~ Saint Jean Vianney
  9. It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than to do without Holy Mass. ~ St. Pio of Pietrelcina
That last quote from Saint Pio is profound. The entire cosmos is sustained by the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass...

Question: How to we restore a sense of the awe and sanctity to the liturgy? How do we remind ourselves and our brothers and sisters in Christ that the sanctuary is "filled with countless angels" during the consecration? It's an inspiring reality. Please leave a comment and share your thoughts or any other inspiring quotes about the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
